The failure of the CPI Injector assemblies has become such a problem, that GM has issued a bulletin ( #87-65-07) addressing the "Rough idle after start when vehicle has set overnight/SCPI poppets sticking (Clean Fuel Injector Using New Procedure)". This bulletin describes the service methods needed when these poppets stick closed using injector balance testing and replacing any and all failing injector units. Once units have been replaced, it is suggested to add a 20-ounce bottle of port fuel injector detergent to the tank. (#12345104)
These CPI units are prone to internal leaking, which causes many driveability problems. In addition to the vehicle not starting, these are rough idling, decreased fuel mileage, and missing at higher RPMs. You may notice a smell of gasoline in the engine compartment. Don't take chances!
